Yemen Emergency

Yemen Cannot Wait…

The toll of the war has been staggering, with approximately 233,000 lives lost and more than 11,000 children killed or injured.

At this juncture, 14 million people throughout Yemen confront significant food insecurity, with an urgent need for humanitarian assistance affecting 80 percent of the country’s total population.

Numerous families and children find themselves in dire circumstances, grappling with displacement and constrained access to essential resources like food, water, and medical care.

They teeter on the edge of famine, struggling to fulfill even their most basic needs.

Surviving On The Brink: Yemen’s Children In Poverty

Millions of children throughout Yemen are being denied the necessities crucial for their survival.

This scarcity of resources is profoundly affecting their health, well-being, and education, and hindering their prospects for growth and a brighter future.

Crippled Economy – Inflation – Mass Unemployment

Beyond the pain, trauma, and suffering inflicted on lives, the war has wreaked extensive damage on the country’s infrastructure, including its roads, buildings, medical facilities, educational establishments, and sanitation systems.

Consequently, living conditions for millions of Yemenis have further deteriorated, impeding much-needed aid from reaching those most in need.

Inflation is rampant, and unemployment has surged to unprecedented levels.

Currently, a staggering 40 per cent of all families in Yemen are compelled into debt to afford the essentials required for survival.

With minimal access to fundamental necessities such as clean water, food, sanitation facilities, and medical care, those suffering in Yemen cannot wait and urgently need your support.

We must unite to ensure that all Yemenis receive the help they need.

Winter Season For Those With No Protection

Each year, the cold weather intensifies the challenges for the most vulnerable in Yemen. Already grappling with one of the worst humanitarian crises globally, they lack adequate protection against the cold.

Millions of Yemeni people, including the sick, elderly, men, women, and children—many of whom are homeless or living in makeshift tents—remain vulnerable to disease, hypothermia, and serious health complications.

The situation is particularly dire in rural areas, where families cannot afford basic winter clothing and may resort to burning wood or plastic to stay warm.

Such drastic actions can lead to respiratory illnesses and further endanger the lives of vulnerable individuals.

To ensure their survival, it is crucial that families in war-torn Yemen receive basic support and assistance for their safety during the winter seasons each year.

Yemen Has One Of The Highest COVID Fatality Rates In The World

For those already enduring extreme poverty, crisis, and war, the Covid-19 outbreak has posed serious threats to their survival, with a catastrophic impact on every aspect of their lives.

The number of fatalities in Yemen due to Covid-19 is among the highest globally, with an estimated 3.6 million cases and 11,000 deaths as of February 2021.

This is particularly troubling given that Yemen’s healthcare system was already strained by the civil war.

Furthermore, hardship has significantly increased due to the pandemic, with over 70% of Yemen’s population now living in extreme poverty (less than $2 a day).

The crisis has forced millions of people to flee their homes in search of relief.

The situation has also had serious implications for the country’s economic development. With unemployment soaring, businesses struggling to survive, and food insecurity growing.

In addition, the pandemic has set back efforts to rebuild infrastructure and restart economic activity in the country.

Yemen is facing one of its darkest periods yet.
